I'm a full-time University student who loves to cosplay~ I've been cosplaying since the end of 2004 and have been going to cons since 2005. Here you will find most of my cosplay from 2009 onwards. For everything else, visit my site.

Another Otakuthon has come and gone.

Overall, I'm feeling pretty ambivalent about the con. There wasn't much in terms of paneling and events that I was particularly interested in and it took me most of the weekend to get out of "study/school" mode for me to really get into it. Hanging out with friends made it worth it though!

I feel like Otakuthon is the con I take the least amount of pictures at, but here they are~…

- Spent the morning/early afternoon trying to finish up cosplay stuff (was cosplaying Aura from Ace Attorney that day).
- Picked up pre-reg with Hamano--Ayumi and then spent a good couple of hours derping around and shooting Ace Attorney fun times with her, her mom, and Diane.
- Waited in line for the merch room for like an hour and luckily got in by around 8:30, so we could do a quick tour.
- Met up with up with some other friends and panel hopped for a couple of hours before calling it a night.

- Drove down to the con with Steph.
- Went to the A New World Final Fantasy concert which was nice.
- Photoshoot with Daniel Watt. The shots I saw look amazing! I'm super excited to see the finished product! :D
- Chilled around the con for a while.
- Panel hopped with the same group of friends as Friday.
- Ended the day with the Persona World panel, which was pretty decent, but I was so tired I left halfway through to go home.

- Was supposed to get to the con with Steph but she got sick. :(
- Spent the morning trying to finish Hijikata's coat (ended up getting to the con around 11ish).
- Walked around and chilled with Diane and co.
- Did a walk around the merch hall again, and caved and got a print I'd been eyeing.
- Went out for what has become our traditional end of con shabu-shabu dinner.

Next up will probably be a day at Montreal ComicCon, but I'm not really feeling super pumped about it, so that might change. If not, I've decided to go to AnimeUSA this year since I have some time off!

Hi Rosieru-chan

I'm not sure if this profile is still active, but I have a question about the cost of materials if you would indulge my inquiry, it would put my mind at rest.

I'm going to Otakuthon for the first time this year a friend bugged me about it last year but I felt shy about it. This year I'm taking the plunge and going but I want to go in costume, I was thinking as going as something original (a creature in armor) and so I sketched out my idea, as well as assembled the materials I will need on paper. the cost seems quite high, over 300$. My idea involves segmented plating much like your Ironwoman costume, which I find amazingly nice I really like the shininess of the armor, it really looks like metal ^_^ So before I gush any further here are the questions.

1. what is that armor made of?

2. what was the cost of materials?

3. what kind of mobility and articulation do you have in that costume?

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this, and more so for taking the time to answer these silly questions.

This account is more or less dead but I check back on it occassionally.

If this is your first time venturing into making a costume though, honestly I would suggest starting with something smaller than a full suit of armor; maybe something with just a few pieces of armor instead? I also say this given the timeframe you have left before the con and since the cost seems to be a bit daunting for you (understandably!).

1) The armor is made out of thick craft foam, coated in white glue to seal it, and then coated in resin, which was then sanded down before spray painting.

2) The cost to make my Ironwoman suit was around $500+. A significant portion of the cost came from the spray paint I used (really expensive auto paint). For a full suit of armor, $300+ is a realistic figure to be looking at.

3) I had limited mobility and articulation in the suit. I could walk, lift my arms about halfway up and sit with the help of someone else. This probably could have been improved at least a bit had I had more time to work on the suit. Also keep in mind that depending on how you build the suit, going to the bathroom is going to be pretty much impossible (or be a very long process) lol.

Good luck with whatever you end up deciding to do! :)

Oh wow thanks Rosieru-chan

awesome of you to reply

I came up with another Idea, I found a body suit online used for extreme sports for 75$ I was thinking of using that and then attaching that Foam you mentioned to it as armored plates to cover up the soft squishy bits.

but do you think it's lame to use a body suit for a cosplay?

If my questions annoy you let me know and I will go away

Other than that thanks for your time you're an awesome person to reply to a newbie like me ^_^

Hope when or if you read this message you had a good day

No, I don't think using a body suit is lame. Do whatever fits your budget and what you think will give you the end results that you want. :)
